The February 13th meeting of the South Shore Outboard Association was called to order by Commodore Alan Akerstrom at 1:50PM. The Meeting was held at The Trailer Place of New England in Kingston, New Hampshire, and there were EIGHTEEN members present.

Secretary’s Report - The Secretary’s report was accepted as printed in the Newsletter.

Treasurer’s Report – Dick Currier presented an income and expense summary for the period ending January February 13, 2010. The Treasurer’s report was accepted as presented. Shawn C. presented a bill in the amount of $174.00 for boat and trailer registrations and an invoice in the amount of $84.00 for materials for the new patrol boat. Motion was made and passed to pay the invoices. Copies of the report and summaries of the Race income and expenses are available at the Meetings.

Membership – Membership Chairman Mike Akerstrom reported on the 2010 Memberships. We currently have 67 members comprised of: 43 – Racing; 13 – non racing; and 11 Life members.

Equipment

    1. New Patrol boatShawn C. reported that he will replace the floor in the boat and that he will cut the gunnels to accommodate the rescue basket. The cost to the Club will be for the materials required to do the job.
    2. The Club has a 75hp engine to go on the boat. The plan is to get the boat to Alex P. by the end of March to get rigged for the engine and hardware. The engine is an electric start donated by Dick C. and Alex.
    3. The white rescue boat still needs to have a new fuel connecter installed. Shawn said he will have that ready for Standish.
    4. The pontoon boat has been fitted with hardware to secure the clock and EZ-up canopy. Two electric extension cords have been sized to run directly from the generator to the computer and clock mechanisms to minimize clutter on the float.
    5. Charlie Gonyea will acquire some milk crates to transport the buoy anchors.
    6. Donations of rope, duck tape and small hand tools will be accepted. The plan is to have a complete set of tools out on the float and another tool bag readily available in the equipment trailer.

Website – The SSOA membership application on the website will be updated to reflect that it is a 2010 membership.

Races

Standish, Maine – Alan Akerstrom will complete the APBA sanction and K&K Insurance applications. Testing will be permitted on Friday. The fee for testing is $15.00 and it is uninsured. Program book ads are available and if a Driver purchases a business card size ad, testing will be free for that driver. It was suggested by Tim N. that the SSOA season schedule be posted in the program book. The North American Championships for DSH have been awarded to Standish. A local film crew featuring Bill Green will be taping the testing activity on Friday.

Hubbardton, Vermont The Modified Outboard Commission awarded the North American Championship to Hubbardton for the 500ccMH Class (CMH). Steve N. will inquire with the CBF members if there is any interest in a joint sanction.

Haverhill, Mass – The race logo for the Haverhill River Run 2010 was displayed. The Haverhill River Run 2010 is scheduled for August 28 – 29. The Marathon will be run at 4:00PM on Saturday.

Taunton, Mass – No report.

Kingston, NH – This will be an APBA – CBF joint sanction scheduled for September 25 & 26th. The Club has requested to have use of the Mason Building located adjacent to the pit area. This will provide us an area for inside registration with power on Saturday and Sunday. It will also be available Saturday evening for an awards presentation and it has a complete kitchen for those that wish to have a pot luck dinner on Saturday evening.

Other Races – No further updates on the Middletown, Ct race or the USTS event in Hartford.

Publicity - SSOA continues to receive coverage in the Propeller Region One news. It was also suggested that SSOA purchase an ad in the Propeller magazine promoting its race schedule for 2010. The Secretary will proceed with developing an ad for the April issue of the Propeller. The SSOA races are already listed in the calendar section of the magazine.

National MeetingSeveral Region One members attended the APBA National Meeting in Seattle, Washington: Alan Akerstrom, Billy Allen, Alex Poliakoff, Mike and Mike Schmidt, Dave Jones and Brian Small. Alex Poliakoff gave the following report on the Stock meeting:

    1. The height in the 25SSH Class was dropped to ½" below the bottom.
    2. J Hydro height dropped to 1.75" below bottom and the weight was raised to 300#’s.
    3. A system has been developed to distribute J props at Championship events.
    4. 20SSH & 25SSR have reverted to their 2009 designation. (Not BSH & BSR)
    5. Yamato 102 is legal to run in 20SSH.
    6. Yamato 102 & 302’s are legal to run in 25SSR.
    7. All Sidewinder engines were approved for their respective classes.
    8. The Mercury engine is back into the A class.
    9. The Kevlar recertification rule is out for now.
    10. The pickle fork rules for Stock, Mod, and Pro are as printed in rule book.

Congratulations to Grampa Gonyea on the birth of Grandson Price. Darshan and husband are doing fine.

The Region One Spring Directors meeting is scheduled for March 20th in Kingston, NH.
