The April 17th meeting of the South Shore Outboard Association was called to order by Commodore Alan Akerstrom at 1:40PM. The Meeting was held at The Trailer Place of New England in Kingston, New Hampshire, and there were FIFTEEN members present.
Secretary’s Report - The Secretary’s report was accepted as printed in the Newsletter.
Treasurer’s Report – In Dick Curriers absence, the Secretary read the Treasurers report for the period ending January April 17, 2010. It was voted to pay invoices relating to the new patrol boat in the amount of $203.00. It was also voted to budget $468.30 for the awards at Standish. The Treasurer’s report was accepted as presented. Copies of the report and summaries of the Race income and expenses are available at the Meetings.
Membership – Membership Chairman Mike Akerstrom sent in his updated membership numbers as follows: We currently have 75 members comprised of: 51 – Racing; 13 – non racing; and 11 Life members.
Equipment –
New Patrol boat – The new patrol boat has been rigged and is all set.
Alex has tested the engine for the new patrol boat and everything worked well.
There was discussion of trading the residual engine parts that the club has to Dave Jones for a 75hp Engine. This engine would be transported to the races on the pontoon boat and would be available for either of the rescue boats as a backup. It would not be operational on the pontoon boat.
Nate Nowak may have an engine that the club can use for this purpose. He will report back to the club at the next meeting.
Alex will look into a propeller for White Rescue.
Life jackets will be supplied for the personnel in the patrol boats and the pontoon boat.
There will be a general orientation of the operation of the clock and camera at the next meeting.

Races
Entry Fees & Awards – The Club voted to keep the entry fees at $30, $25, and $20. (1st class, 2ndclass, 3 or more classes). When awards are presented, the Drag Category will be included.
Standish, Maine – Alan Akerstrom has completed the APBA sanction and K&K Insurance applications and the funds have been remitted to APBA. The food concession will be available on Friday. The Club authorized Shawn C. to purchase mugs and key chains for awards. Testing will be permitted on Friday. The fee for testing is $15.00 and this amount goes to the Kiwanis Club. It is uninsured testing. Program book ads are available and if a Driver purchases a business card size ad, testing will be free for that driver. The North American Championships (NAC) for DSH has been awarded to Standish. The sanction cost for the NAC is $150. Richmond Aero Marine remitted a check for $150.00 to sponsor this event.
Hubbardton, Vermont – The Green Mountain Boys received an acknowledgement letter from the Lake Association and the permit application has been filed with the state of Vermont. The ambulance service and traffic control groups have been contracted. Terry is working on having Slate Plaques for awards again this season. He is also meeting with the Motel owners to discuss a priority rate for the racers that weekend. He is not having a lot of success in putting together a program book. The Modified Outboard Commission awarded the North American Championship to Hubbardton for the 500ccMH Class (CMH). The pit area will be expanded. Sanction and Insurance applications must be filed by May 5, 2010.
Haverhill, Mass – Dave Goodwin from the Crescent Yacht Club was on hand to update the Club on the race status. The permit application has been filed with the USCG and is moving through the process. The first organizational meeting for the CYC members will be April 29th. The Yacht Club has also reserved a spot in the Annual Downtown Haverhill Kid’s Feast event again this year. SSOA will have several boats on display and informational brochures will be distributed. Last year’s event drew over 10,000 people; this year’s event will be May 2nd. We have received approval from the SORC to hold the Northeast Marathon Divisionals at Haverhill and it will kick off at 4:00PM on Saturday August 28th.
Taunton, Mass – No Report
Kingston, NH – This will be an APBA – CBF joint sanction scheduled for September 25 & 26th. There is no updated news to report since the last meeting.
Other Races – Bill Forster reported that everything is progressing with the Middletown site approvals.
Publicity – APBA’s Propeller Magazine Editor Tana Moore has requested that SSOA submit a standalone article for the Hubbardton, Vermont race. She also requested photos of the race and photo’s of the Drag Category at Region One races. Paul Luippold will provide the requested photos.
Banquet – Harriet Thompson will look into alternative sites for the fall banquet. The Lafayette Club has been a good location, but we may need a larger venue if we incorporate the 6oth Anniversary celebration.
SSOA 60th Anniversary – There were preliminary discussions on the date of the Anniversary event. There have been suggestions of having the event in the evening after a race or incorporating it in with the Annual Awards Banquet. The general consensus was to have the event at the time of the Banquet. Let us know your thoughts.
